FAQs
Police and Fire dogs normally retire around the age of 8 or 9 years old, but this is guided by veterinary advice.
Pensison4paws does not arrange the rehoming of the Police/Fire dogs but if you think you would be able to offer a retired dog a home, please register your interest by contacting Tracey on the email below.

It is essential to consider your home environment when considering the re-home of a working dog. Search Dogs (Spaniels/Labs) generally find it easier to settle into a normal home environment so rehoming with children and other dogs is not generally a problem.
General Purpose Dogs (GSD's/Malinois/Herders) are used for searching, detaining people and firearms incidents, therefore it's worth considering that these dogs sometimes fine it more difficult to adapt to home life and are better suited to experienced owners or those in a rural setting.
Once you have given a retired dog a home please click here to register your dog. Or contact nick@pensions4paws.com.
If possible, investigate insurance for your retired dog. It doesn't mean we won't help if you don't have insurance, we will still help where we can and have often assisted in covering costs that perhaps the insurance company won't.
If you need to make a request for financial assistance with P4P, please make sure you have registered your dog first. All the details can be found here.

Pensions4paws was set up to assist with the costs of ongoing care of Police and Fire dogs when they retire. Many of the dogs go on to have a healthy retirement and don't require any financial help. If this isn't the case, we have assisted with the following:
- Vets bills
- Hydrotherapy
- Emergency kennelling
- Any other costs associated with the care and wellbeing of the dog
We endeavour to assist owners with the financial burden of retiring a Police/Fire dog where possible.
