What we do

Pensions4Paws support retired Police and Fire Dogs from Hampshire Constabulary, Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service. We are run purely by volunteers, so ALL money raised goes to supporting the dogs.

During their working life they are cared for by the Police and Fire Service and get the best healthcare available.

When a Police or Fire Dog retires, they receive no financial assistance, all the cost of care and ongoing treatment falls upon the new owner.

We aim to continue to give these dogs the healthcare they deserve after retirement and give them the best life possible.

About our dogs

Police and Fire dogs are an extremely valuable resource for the police and fire service and the communities they serve. They are used in a multitude of situations which include:

  • searching for suspects in buildings and open ground,
  • ‘tracking’ suspects where they have run from the scene of a crime,
  • locating stolen property,
  • public order situations such as riots and disorder at football matches,
  • searching for missing people, illegal drugs, money, firearms, explosives, blood and criminally concealed bodies.

Police and Fire dogs live with their handlers at their homes and the bond between them is very special. Our dogs mean a lot to us and when the time comes for retirement it is always a very difficult time for both dog and handler.

Why we need your help

Whilst a lot of dog owners will take out insurance for their pooches to cover expensive vet’s bills, this is not something that can be done for police and fire dogs because of their age and also the job they have previously done.

Vet bills are expensive for the range of treatments these old dogs require. We hope to provide assistance to the new owners so that heart breaking decisions do not have to be made for financial reasons.  Whilst we would love to be able to, we cannot cover all of these costs but believe that any help we can provide is a benefit.

Did you know that arthritis can cost up to £1200 per year to treat, or that removal of a lump can cost nearly £400, and that is without any medication.
With your help, we can in turn help their new owners to provide a long, healthy and happy retirement for these wonderful animals.
HELP NOW

Police and Fire dogs spend their lives serving their communities, and we believe that they have earned the right to put their paws up and enjoy a happy retirement!

Our mission is to support these courageous dogs who have worked long hours protecting both the public and their handlers and we ask that the communities they have worked hard to protect now repay their loyal service by supporting the Pensions4paws charity.

We are currently supporting 50 retired Police and Fire Dogs.
